About

Everything has its place and role in a larger system. Themes and ideas share this as well. As I work, I am constantly bombarded with external stimuli. New knowledge, new imagery, new critique. These, and more, have shaped the direction my work has taken. Drawing is at the core of everything I do. It is the energy I find in my drawings that I attempt to recapture in other mediums. The initial, unplanned line and bold directness of a drawn mark is my emphasis on the random harmony the world is capable of.
Art history is one of the most important tools I use. History inspires through texts and images, allowing me to better see where I fit into the great game of art. As I learn of new artists and movements, I am made aware of the branching connections they weave together. From this I see a strong foundation for my work to build from. Everyday I experience images I must confront and interpret. I reclaim, and make connections to narrate the story of my life and how I view the world. By capturing these frames of perception, I’m further adding to my artistic resources and developing my artistic and aesthetic philosophies. I strive to make improvements on my work. When approaching my work I welcome and desire the viewer to express what they don’t like, along with what they may. Each piece I work on is an attempt to improve upon and strengthen the last. Open critique allows me a freedom from one distinct style and promotes growth. I hope to never reach a day when myself, or my work becomes exempt from critique, but I continue to work as though I do.
With diligent care and dignity I offer that I am an artist. All have the ability to express themselves, and it’s our nature that demands it of us. As I continue to grow and evolve as an artist my hope is to learn more of the world, and my role within it.
